I've often wondered what colouring for Marvel would be like and today, as I was taking a bit of a breather to recover from the Bristol Expo, I decided to find out.

What better way to do that than by using the art of my favourite penciler/inker team, Chris Bachalo and my former inking mentor, *TimTownsend

You can find Tim's vanilla inks here: [link]

And my conclusion? Colouring over art of this standard is both more enjoyable and leads to far better results. I loved every minute of colouring this.

Cheers!

The DC portfolio thing was a waste of time. I just got quotes from the book of standard comments that editors who know nothing about inking use.

Very nice colouring Ian, the green works particularly well to ';pop' Cap and provide a focal point, good choice for a contrast. The shading on the glove and shield is a nice touch too.

(Maybe your 'Marvel' palette would work better on Slam than your 'DC' one?)

I'm really liking this!

Glad you like it, and using the green background to make the red/blue figure pop is fairly basic colour theory, but it's very effective.

Actually, I used the DC palette for this but may rethink how I do Slam in light of this. Perhaps Slam's outfit should be red/blue? I hink I've been guilty of focusing on what colour scheme would work on screen for Slam, rather than what would work best in a comic. It's no coincidence that the vat majority of the biggest comic book stars have red/blue costumes. Superman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Wonder Woman...all essentially red/blue.
